What is a mini abdominoplasty (also known as a mini tummy tuck)?
Weight loss, pregnancy, and genetics are reasons one may struggle with their abdominal area, and this can greatly affect their confidence and how they view themselves.
If you are unhappy with your abdominal contour, a mini tummy tuck may be the answer to restore a slimmer stomach and rebuild your confidence.
Some patients do not require a full correction of the entire abdomen. Patients whose concerns are limited to the lower abdomen may be better suited to a variation of a traditional tummy tuck. Mini tummy tuck focuses on treating excess abdominal skin and fat located below the belly button. It usually does not address weakened or separated abdominal muscles.
Am I a good candidate for a mini tummy tuck?
An ideal patient is one who is in fairly good physical shape but has loose tissue in the lower abdomen and possibly some muscle separation as well.
Most women seeking rejuvenation of their tummies after pregnancy require a full tummy tuck in order to address recontouring of the entire abdominal wall and to ensure the best cosmetic results.
It is important to have a consult with Dr. Freed so that he may direct you to the most effective procedure. Your age, body type, skin condition, and your desired results all play into the type of procedure that is best for you.
What will my mini tummy tuck scar look like?
The scar position is above the bikini line. Many times with the mini tummy tuck, your scar can be shorter than the full procedure.
What is the mini tummy tuck recovery like?
Recovery can vary based on your own physical health and how closely you follow the post-operative instructions. It’s important that you schedule your surgery during a time that is not surrounded by an increased level of stress or excess busyness in your life.
Most of the time a mini tummy tuck requires 2 weeks of recovery. It is common to have bruising, swelling, and possible redness around the surgical site.
Make sure you have strong support and help at home during your recovery time.
